Basically can't connect scanner - it may not be supported and note from Sane pages they need to know one way or another? :D

Ok, temporarily resolved this by using the demo package of VueScan - will have to wait when funds will allow to buy the full thing - I was gobsmacked that the trial version worked straight off!

You will need to connect via USB - I can't see a wireless option.
