Question about wifi

I'd like to retire WinXP on my old P4 computers and install Zorin 9 which seems to work fine on these older machines. Regular ethernet picks up right away, but how do I configure my wifi which was originally setup with XP? Thanks.

Hi,

if you still have the Windows driver disk, you can use the Windows Wireless Tool to set it up (or download the drivers from the web!):

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/43752/ho ... s-drivers/

You will find the tool under: Zorin Menu > System Tools > Administration > Windows Wireless Drivers

Whilst you are connected via Ethernet, open Synaptic Package Manager (just enter Synaptic in the Win 7 search bar, then launch it. In the small search box in middle near top of Synaptic Window and search for 'ndiswrapper' then install the two packages not yet installed - do this by selecting the box to the left of each package, right-click and select 'Mark for installation' then click on 'Apply' from the menu bar.

My Trendnet wireless router has firmware, there is no driver for it. Would I just connect it to Zorin, enter the ip address and set it up that way?

Hi,

"Firmware" and "Driver" are essentially the same thing, follow the instructions in the link posted above and it may work, the alternative is to search the web for the driver package!. :D

Which model do you have?:

If you are really lucky, you may well find your drivers using: Synaptic > Settings > repositories > Additional Drivers Tool

I have the Trendnet TEW-711BR v2 model. Haven't been able to find any kind of driver download for either Windows or Linux. The CD that came with it just contained a user's manual.

Hi,

go here and click on the firmware download at the top of the list:

Once downloaded, right click and extract to a folder of your choice, then use the Windows Driver Tool!. :D

Hi, your router should not have any issues, your wireless issues will relate to either the wireless PCI card or USB dongle you are using.
