Installing Alsa Drivers

I am trying to use my Audiophile 2496 sound card. I understand that I need Alsa drivers for this. Not sure how to go about installing them. Zorin is recognizing the 2496 in System Tools/Sound, but I'm not getting any sound, so I assume it's because of the drivers. Unfortunately, I'm not up on how to do this. I have used some terminal commands and can follow instructions, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to install software packages except the easy ones in Software Center!

I tried using the synaptic package manager. Searched "alsa" and a bunch of stuff came up. Alsa base is already installed, as is alsa utilities. I tried installing everything else but got a reply that contact could not be established with ubuntu. I'm going to see if I can find something to configure, maybe the alsa utilities.

I installed one by one all the items that came up in Synaptic in the search for "alsa," this time they all installed. Still no sound. I do get sound through the built-in analog sound. I'm wondering if it's because I have a three-way speaker system hooked up? I have M-audio BX5a monitors with a Mackie subwoofer. It all works fine with the built-in sound, but not with the 2496. I have read that this is a supported card. At this point I'll sit tight and wait for answers.

It's an Old thread (6 years old based on the version of Ubuntu being used at the time) but it might just help?:

OK, I'm getting some sound finally. One of the things I installed is the Envoy 24 control. In fooling around with the settings, I'm getting some sound. I just have to figure out the different controls and I think I'll be home free!

Hi,

try installing "paman" (Pulse Audio Manager) which has a few more setting options for you to play around with:

Code:
sudo apt-get install paman

You'll find it under Sound & Video once installed!.

Hi Wolfman, Having read a bit of that thread I posted a while back, what is interesting is that Pulse Audio is named as being responsible for heavy processor usage and some other issues - wonder if that is one of the causes for Zorin for some users maxing out CPU?

;) :D

Good tips here also:
