Hi

I have just installed Zorin 10 on a Dell Inspiron 1545, everything installed perfectly apart from my WiFi. The card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01).

I found this command on a Ubuntu forum sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree The command worked a charm, the correct driver was downloaded and installed but the card still wouldn't work.

On opening the Additional Drivers app I could see that the card wasn't working, selecting the use button simply refuses to change the setting.

Is this a bug or an incompatible driver?

I applied this fix using a wired connection

First, go to additional drivers, the tab marked "Ubuntu Software". Check the box marked "Proprietary Drivers for Devices". Then enter into a terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

Your wifi should then be enabled, if not go back to additional drivers and try to enable your device again.

The card is now installed and working according to the Additional Drivers app but still no WiFi connection, the card works fine under windows 7 & 8.

Hi,

right click the network icon in the bottom panel (beside the sound button) and then on "Enable Wifi".

Dont use Broadcom drivers, stay with the open source option.
