Unable to Use My Wifi

Bear-Claw

Tue Oct 13, 2015 7:11:40 pm

Wifi is not working on my new Lenovo Flex3 here is some command line info on the hardware. I am currently using a USB N Wifi device which works fine. The built in card is AC so I would really like to get it working for the improved performance.
ZorinOS 10 installed and updated
Thanks

Madvinegar is the resident WiFi expert, his last post here: vhttp://zoringroup.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 453#p48453 in the meantime!.

Hi,

open a terminal with Ctrl + Alt + t and then type (copy & paste) the following commands:

Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

followed by

Code:
sudo apt-get install -f

Also try:

Code:
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install

The above command downloads and installs any missing packages on your system.

Code:
sudo apt-get --fix-broken install

The above command downloads and installs any broken dependencies on your system.

Also try this command and then reboot on all accounts!:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f

See the update guide also and make sure that your software sources download location is set to "Main server":

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2247

Let us know if it helps. :D

Thanks for the help.
I forgot to mention I am on Zorin OS 10. Maybe you could probably tell from all the info I posted already.
I ran the commands you posted and most worked but the first 2 below did not.
sudo apt-get –fix-missing install
BC Result-missing invalid operation

sudo apt-get –fix-broken install
Invalid operation

After running ( sudo apt-get install -f )
I Got a message to run this command to remove unnecessary packages; sudo apt-get autoremove
So I did. Seemed to work ok.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f Installed 7 updates
My "Sources dowlload location" is set to Main.
After reboot still no wifi adapter :(

"Yes - either 4.2-rc or newer, or use Kalle's tree[1]." Can the kernal be updated in Zorin ?
Post #34 sound like they have some success.
Is this information of any use for my problem ?
I did not try any of this since I was not sure its compatible with Zorin OS 10 :?: :?:

Hi,

sorry, there was a typo in the commands, try the following 2 again:

Code:
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install

Code:
sudo apt-get --fix-broken install

Here is the result , does not look like it did much.

There is a bug with your card and lenovo laptops.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1436940

However, you can try this:

Open terminal and run the following commands, one by one.

Code:
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/atondwal/ath10k-firmware.git
sudo cp -r ath10k-firmware/ath10k/ /lib/firmware/
cd /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6164
sudo cp -r hw2.1/ /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/

Close terminal, re-open it and run:
Code:
echo "options ath10k_core skip_otp=y" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/ath10k_core.conf

then reboot and hopefully your card will be working.

Madvinegar,
I ran the commands to add the ath10 kernal or is it driver?
Not sure it worked on the last command it came back with this "options ath10k_core skip_otp=y" , I am guessing there should have been something different since its still not working after reboot.
I found this page http://www.killernetworking.com/support/knowledge-base/17-linux/20-killer-wireless-ac-in-linux-ubuntu-debian
Is any of this information/process helpful? maybe the config file bit?
I updated the lshw and it now shows the model # QCA6164 802.11ac

From what I read in the bug report, you may need to upgrade your kernel to 4.1.6 and later.
I suppose that your wireless card firmware will be included at a later version of Zorin/Ubuntu i.e. on Willy Werewolf or Xenial Xirus where the kernel is 4.2

In case you want to try, you can download from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/ma ... .2.5-wily/ kernel 4.2.5 and install the necessary deb files according to the architecture of your system.
Otherwise you may need to wait for a later version of Zorin/Ubuntu where the firmware of your wireless card will be included in the kernel.

This is NOT a bug with the card nor laptop.

From launchpad.net
"This card remains unsupported out-of-the-box by the ath10k_pci kernel module. At this point, it looks like kvalo's ath10k-firmware repo just needs to be pulled in."
