The GCC C++ compiler just recently was updated and I noticed Zorin 3.1 only comes with GCC 4.4 and I have no idea how to update since through the repositories it is only updated to 4.4, Im not sure how to go about building it from source or another way to update through apt. I am trying to learn how to program both on Windows and Linux and so far it has been a pain... I guess I can do it without updating but the latest g++ compiler contains a lot of improvements for the latest installment of c++.

Apparently it appears upgrading GCC on linux is just as scary as trying to update the kernel... why this is im not sure, I just tried it on 3.1 and apparently purged the entire user folder and broke my linux... I didn't think that was possible
