Hi everyone,

I can recommend this website for you all as it is a "One-Stop" Q & A for LXDE users using Ubuntu based systems:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1844755

please feel free to post any questions you may have, we will do our best to help you in any way we can, maybe there are indeed a few members who have used LXDE based systems; but I am not one of them!!.

Thanks, Wolfman!

I'm not using LXDE either, but I perused that website and it is indeed very informative.

I do have some questions as someone who has always used Gnome and is completely unfamiliar with LXDE.

Are there are any screenshots around of the Zorin OS Lite desktop?
Does it look different from Zorin OS Core, which uses Gnome 2?
Does Zorin Lite still have the Zorin Look Changer?

I did a google search for the differences between LXDE and Gnome. Besides a couple wikipedia comparisons (which over stimulated my brain and caused a twitch or two ;) ), I found this link, http://www.renewablepcs.com/about-linux/kde-gnome-or-xfce, which provides a superficial overview of each. The differences mentioned center around performance; window, file, and task managers; and the terminal.

Can the same applications be installed from the repositories?
Will it result in a situation where the applications may or may not work or look nice, similar to the way KDE apps kind of work in Gnome?
Besides performance, does LXDE have other benefits over Gnome?

Sorry, that's a lot of questions, but my interest has been sparked.
I'll keep searching for more information, but if anyone here has used LXDE and has any more info I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Hi TB,

I really cannot tell you much about LXDE as I have never used it, I am a Gnome fan first and a KDE fan second, there should be no lose in its performance as far as progs go and; any gnome or kde prog should work assuming that all the dependencies are installed!!.

As far as screenshots go, there is very little difference between Lite and the normal Zorin OS!!.

The repos are the same as Ubuntu but use the prefix Lubuntu so to speak but really, anything should work on it!!, I can only recommend you try it out and see, I have tried out the live CD but it is not for me and I won't be working with it at all!!.

I don't even know what version 6 of Zorin will be like, Admin said that they would not be using Gnome Shell so I can only assume they will be using XFCE!!!????????????????????????????.

As always, thanks for quick reply!! I'll hit up the live cd and give it a whirl.

Just to let you know, that thread on the Ubuntu forum was closed by the forum admin a few weeks ago. (See the last post of that thread for details.)

Here is a good Linux beginner search engine for all Linux distros. (LXDE users like myself have to adapt to the "Hunter-Gatherer" frame of mind from time to time.) This is a good one. It even has the Zorin logo on it! http://home.windstream.net/joelwest/

Hi and thanks for the heads up, the links are still available so people can still get info from the links provided!!.

The main Ubuntu site is often hard to read through anyway and that is why I chose to include the main link for all the other goodies it offers. Basically; anyone using LXDE just needs help with the DE itself as the rest of the OS is Ubuntu in another guise!!.
