Popcorn Time and forks - How to make work in Zorin 8

Hi guys, just thought I'd give you a heads up on getting the new Popcorn Time and it's many forks to work in Zorin 8 or Ubuntu 13.10.

Update: The main Popcorn Time URL is now: http://popcorntime.io/ NOT http://popcorn-time.tv/ as stated below. They now have native Linux versions that work great. Popcorn Time now also has TV Shows! Current version is 3.2. Simply extract the file Popcorn-Time-0.3.2-Linux-64.tar.gz to anywhere you like and double click the Popcorn-Time file inside the extracted folder to run the program. You can use Make Link by right clicking the file to create a shortcut you can place on the desktop. Because the program does not install natively and only runs as a portable application, I prefer to make a folder in the Home directory called "Portable Apps" and extract the folder there. You have to make it's desktop shortcut from the folders main resting place. If you make the shortcut then move the folder the shortcut will not work. I will leave the info below here so you can still use the method below to work with the Popcorn Time forks.

This video helped me tons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FowMqT6nudc

The all open source Popcorn Time app steams torrent's of movies in real time as does it's popular forks. This may be illegal depending where you live or what you choose to stream with them so check with your local laws before using. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn_Time

In a nutshell you download and extract a Popcorn Time app/fork of your choice and open the folder. You will have to drop the exe file into Ghex a hex editor and search for the string " libudev " without the quotes. You search from the right hand side of the Find windows in Ghex. After you hit Find Next, highlight the 0 and change it to a 1. Just highlight the 0 , do not backspace on it as if to erase it. This can screw you up and you don't want to lose any formatting. The 0 will change to a 1 without having to delete it. Hit Save from the menu at the top of Ghex then run the Popcorn Time app again. It should work now.

Disregard this lne it is obsolete. See Update above --> Main Popcorn Time beta version 2.8 found here: http://popcorn-time.tv/ Currently it only streams movies. They plan to have tv shows in future releases. Github pages: https://github.com/popcorn-org/popcorn-app

Popular fork, called Time 4 Popcorn found here: http://time4popcorn.eu/ They stream movies and TV shows but currently the tv shows only work for the Windows version. Hopefully a fix will come soon. Note, this app looks so much like it's parent (with the exception of TV shows in windows) above it even still calls itself "Popcorn Time" inside the program - be sure not to confuse this fork with the above popcorn time version. The Linux version does not have TV Shows enabled so you won't see that.

Popular fork called Flixtor found here: http://www.flixtor.com/ Flixtor's Linux version does have both movies and tv shows but they use some different tools in their version of the app that do not make it seem as streamlined as the other Popcorn Time versions. I suspect they will fix this soon as all of these are in their infancy.

The above fix in the video fixed all current versions of these files and all 3 seem to work fine as long as you have a good internet connection.
Enjoy !
