Zorin 12 Core "performance" versus Windows-XP

Zorin 12 Core "performance" versus Windows-XP

Postby PietO » Mon Apr 24, 2017 10:52 am

just for info as Feedback:

installed Zorin-12 Core on an old laptop with 1 Gbyte memory and left Windows-XP installed (encountered some errors, but all was finally oke). Thus could make a simple comparison between both:

Cold-startup time until desktop quiet: XP=25 sec. Zorin: 68 sec.
Browser startup from desktop: XP considerably faster.

Deinstalled Zorin12-core again as it's competition is more Windows 7/10 on better equipped machines. With Windows-XP tiny-version the difference would be even larger.

On old kit like that you need something lighter like Zorin Lite - 12 should be out soon - if you can't wait try SolydX Community Stable edition that uses XFCE which the new Zorin Lite will also use when released, breaking away from LXDE - more configurable than XP too! ;) :D

Thanks for the link: did try SolydX but . . . . indeed old kit: runs only X68 while SolydX is only 64 bit available on Website. Will now look for elder version Zorin Lite to try.

Succeeded: tried Zorin9-lite and did full update. Indeed, runs more fluid than Zorin12-core, but still can't beat Windows-XP: startup time now 42 sec. against 28 sec. for XP. Zorin looks easier to maintain and configure thus will wait for Zorin12-lite as main small-business OS.
