http://www.lxle.net/

I have tried it and rans smothly in live usb, however cannot "transparencies" get to work, neither make the "start menu" fonts bigger.
Anyway I am looking for opinions...

It is a good distro, and one I used to recommend, but again this has PAE kernel. For older kit I now only recommend AntiX-17 32-bit or SolydX Community Stable 32-bit editions: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14198#p62469

Hello, I haver read you about this PAE issue, I don't understand quite well what it is, or what is wrong with it?
In the midtime while I wait for your answer I 'll check the antiX you are mentioning.. I must be trully , I was thinking about installing LXLE in my desktop computer (6 years old now, 64 bits accepted, the one I always make questions about.)

OK, If it is 64 bits it should be ok if PAE present - what PAE does is in respect of 32-bit machines that have more than 4 Gb memory to access that memory. But on older 32-bit processors that don't have PAE (Intel Processors) it will run like a 3 legged dog or worse. ;) :D

 jajajajaj I know and it does perfect sense...

I have been reading about that PAE kernel, and how it helps when 32 bits computer has 4 GB RAM. I wonder if could be a problem for me for this computer I have and Intel dual core procesor it accepts 64 bits OS (by the way I wont install another distro I will re install zorinos due the issues mentioned in the other post) however I always wonder when I download a 64 bits edition OS (that ussualy says AMD) if I am ok. :?:

Even if it says Intel it should still work. ;)

Thank you!.
May this distro work with an Atom processor (Intel Atom N550) from a Acer Aspire One D255 netbook, 1 GB RAM. ? I ask this regarding that PAE issue we talked about

This article might help on that one:

Thanks the netbook I mentioned above is under Linux Mint 17.3 xfce and I wanted to install the distro mentioned before.

According to this site it seems this processor supports 64 bits? does it? :?: :?: :?:

I have been reading the article you gently posted regarding atom N2800 I wonder if this could apply for my atom N550 ? All in all I am about to install the distro mentioned on that computer I would give it a chance.

UPDATE : I mannaged to install the lxle linux 32 bits version, in my atom N550 machine , but it took a lot of time to get installed, after dowloading packages and things.... I am now booting the 64 bits version and I am in usblive mode now. According to intel web page this processor seems to support 64 bits, and I also run this
Code:
grep flags /proc/cpuinfo
as mentioned in the link you gave me. And the results says "lm" , which acording to the link " If you see the lm flag (long mode), your CPU is 64bits (amd64)" . in that case will be good for this computer? I got confussed with the PAE issue (intel processors) atom is intell , so I am wondering... which version should I install , only have 1 GB ram.

Ps: Dowloading antix 17 just in case, but same doubt 32 or 64 bits?

I would go with 32-bits as you don't have 4 gb RAM - 64 Bits was designed to break the barrier of 32-bit OS unable to use more than 4 Gb RAM. ;)

thank you!!!.... I did so I found out LXLE is quite complex visualy speaking, but it is like most things in life, you have to take time to get used to.... this netbook is supposed to be used by and elder so , Antix is coming its way.....

LXLE includes a lot of apps that I like and that I used but the the lack of space between fonts and the fact that there is a lot to configure before a non linux user start using it makes me wonder... (fonts to small, 2 panels that shortened the already shorted screen, OS is not fully translated in spanish).

No worries, I get the general picture (very small!) ;) :D

I had to keep LXLE because once I plugged the keyboard back ( I will explain below) , I got tired of working in that netbook, so I configured everything for the user , despite the OS isn't completly translated, and despite applying to the whole system the language imput ....

OFF Topic:
*That keyboard has a problem, which I am not very sure about . So in order to install the OS I have to remove it and attached an external keyboard. The problem is this : the first time I opened that ACER Aspire ONE netbook I got broken the little white motherboard plug holder for the the keyboard cable (flex) , so I am not sure if it does its purpose. Once the the keyboard is plugged, throu this cable , whenever I reboot or shutdown and turn back on, I heard a lot of beeps.... so I don't know if the keyboard is broken , or is the cable ( I don't know how to discard).... one thing is for sure, there's a problem on that keyboard that I cannot recognize quite well...and I am afraid that if I bought a replacement I won't be able to plugged it correctly (the space is too small).. I have been trying to sort/fix this issue from 2 years now. This year I call for a technician to came home. He knew nothing!, He knew less than me...money thrown into the garbage. (He only knew about windows and trying to sell me a bigger computer)

OK, so where should the keyboard be attached - a different computer? What is the make and model of the keyboard and what connecton does it use? ps2? USB? ;)

I was talking about the netbook keyboard, which has a flex cable to attached it into the motherboard.

OK, I see. Can you not disable the keyboard in the BIOS peripherals? ;)

Interesting thread here on different model:

Hi thank you for your reply, no I cannot disable it... I am hopping to replace it but I am not sure if I will be able to attached it ok due to the fact the holder is a bit broken, I might have to take it to a specialist.
Regarding the distro, It works fine in 32 bits version but it isn't fully translated into Spanish, and once the keyboard is plugged it becomes slow and the memory card heats.

Thanks for the link.

I was delayed in aswering you since I don't get the notification emails

Hi pcfan5

view the time you must invest in your computer(s) would you not consider buying a new (or good secondhand) laptop via your university?

cheers

oh no , if this could be fixed as simple as changing the onboard keyboard for a new one , I will do that. Regards ;)
