Kernel upgrade for Zorin-OS-Core-64-20161120.iso

I installed Zorin-OS-Core-64-20161120.iso in 2016 and it has been kept up to date. Only recently, I noticed that the release is at 12.4 but the kernel is still at 4.4 where as a fresh install of 12.4 has kernel 4.15. The repos are the same on both install.

Do I just install 4.15 kernel with apt install?

In view of some kernel update difficulties I have had on older machines at work, I would wait for the updates to come through the stable channels first. Be sure to backup any critical data before attempting to update the kernel! ;) :D

It may be a long wait for nothing because kernel updates for Zorin 12 has been left behind. The point releases have progress from kernel 4.4 -> 4.8 -> 4.10 -> 4.13 -> 4.15 so why is my 12 updated to 12.1,2,3,4 release still at 4.4?

Also make sure you get your updates from 'Main Server' unless you are on metered access. ;) :D
