I just installed Zorin OS and everything seems to work just fine except graphics..
Websites aren't scrolling smoothly and there's no native resolution available in the display settings.
My pc is Msi x320 laptop with Intel gma500 graphics. Would additional drivers work?

I found these: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2011Q3.html but I don't know what to do with them because there are those different components (there's only one simple driver-installer in windows lol).

Hi Koku,

I think you first need to check what CPU you have as the Intel drivers for Linux might well be CPU specific.

I did find this page:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 0&lang=eng

but cannot say if they are the right ones for you!!.

The drivers that come with Linux are normally okay as far as I know, that said, I will only buy a PC with an Nvidia chip in the furture!!.

after recommending Zorin to a friend of mine, he encountered the same problem as mentioned in this thread.

Googling on GMA500 drivers revealed that this is an known problem in the Linux world (badly / non maintained drivers by Intel; here for ATOM Z520 and screenres: 1366*768). It seems that an expert finally resolved it in an own live CD (see: http://blog.bodhizazen.net/linux/ubuntu-gma500-live-cd/ ) and from the details:

"Good news for people with an Intel GMA500 (Poulsbo) graphics card, support is now in the mainline Linux kernel. In the Linux 3.3-rc1 (mainline) kernel the driver has moved out of staging and re-named"

My question: would it be feasibile for a Linux newbee (Windows-no issue) to try to find/install this new driver under Zorin or would this lead to a flood of questions to you for help / info on basic stuff??

Hi PietO,

thanks for your input, if you want to wait a while longer, the next version of Zorin will be available with the latest kernel and it should have addressed the Intel problem!!.

If you do want to intstall and you have questions, fire away my friend, I cannot say whether we will successfully help you; but we will do our best!!. :D
