Iso corruption

Iso corruption

Postby Popeye » Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:01 am

Trying to etch iso to usb using my Android tablet so I can install Zorin Core on my brother's laptop.
EtchDroid notification says Write finished. Zorin-OS-15.1-Core-64-bit-r2 successfully written to SanDisk Cruzer Glide. (32G)
Drive storage on my Android tablet says Zorin OS 15.1 Core 64bit corrupted.
When Lenovo 110S laptop is booted from usb, drive screen is blank. No install window.
Downloaded Zorin directly from site using Chrome on Android Tablet.
Writing iso directly from download directory without moving it.

Any ideas?

Are you living in a country that does not allow certain video codecs? That is what r numbers refer to. You should also check that the iso against its md5 or SHA sum before creating install media.

I'm in the United States. I downloaded from the Zorin website and do not see a hash sum available.

When things go wrong...
How many attempts have you made?

Checksum is a bit hard to find. It is on Installation Help page. But here is a list:
ISO sha256 checksum
Zorin OS 15.1 Core 64-bit 39ddfeb72dfc9cd22ed007a3cc16d4b949ef76365a4f7c381eedd01fbd639180

Interestingly, on that same page, it says:
TIP

It's recommended to download Zorin OS using the latest version of Firefox or Google Chrome without any third-party download managers. This helps avoid corrupting the file.

I think if you had used a download manager, you would have mentioned it, but it's better to raise that just in case.

Also the hash files are there, just hidden - another forum member pointed this out.

Thanks guys. Well the checksums match so this exonerates the folks at Zorin. I guess I'll have to bat the ball back into Davide Depau, the developer of EtchDroids side of the court. I had emailed him previously but he has not responded.

I know this may seem goofy to ask- But how many attempts have you made?
A corruption on download, in etching, in installation- any could happen on occasion. Some are never noticed and corrected once installation is finished due to updating once connected to the net.

Also USB thumb drives don't last forever. I would have used Rufus on a Windows Machine - I don't trust Android devices (even though my smart phone is currently using it - I need to replace it with E if I can succesfully do it on my old One Plus 3). :D

I have made four attempts. The usb is only temporary. I hope to install the OS directly on the laptop. Unfortunately all I have at the moment is my Android tablet.

I used to have several machines and played with a few distros back in the day but I have been out of the game for quite awhile now.

I'll take another crack at it.

I think four attempts- we cannot say that it was a fluke. Something is clearly interfering.
Can you give more detail on how you are using the Tablet- what the tablet is (make, model) and the general procedure you are following?
