how to backup to an external hard drive.?

how can i back-up to an external hard drive(goflex 500mb) and recover my zorin partition later?
i'm afraid my old internal hard drive won't last much longer and i could back up to a new one.
i,m new to linux.thanks.

I would use Clonezilla to image the entire hard drive as it is right now, if you want everything backed up as it now is. IF you want just certain things, like /home and the .hidden folders, then make them viewable) and then use Simple Backup (sbackup) which can be installed via the Software Center or from the terminal, sudo apt-get installsbackup - Read this for details: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Backu ... ackupSuite
