Change virtual terminal for desktop

I am using a remote desktop application that attaches itself to the initial graphical screen which is VT7, but once logged in the actual desktop is created on VT2.

Is there a way to have the desktop itself also created on VT7?

At this moment if I try to access the machine remotely it shows a blank screen, the same as if switching to VT7 locally, with just the default login background (dark green grid)

Which remote access application are you using?
Do you know which protocol it uses?

Personally I mostly use SSH,. but that is limited to just Terminal (not well suited for everyone's needs)
When I go have a remote desktop application I need to run, I use either NoMachine, or X11Forwarding. No Machine uses it's own protocol, while X11 is closer to running a program over SSH.

I haven't used any RDP programs in the past, and I'm told VNC works out of the box.

If you not limited to the application your using for remote access you might want to have a look into some of these.
