[SOLVED] Zorin 15 Won't boot after CPU upgrade

Hello! First time poster here, I recently abandoned Win 7 after a hardware upgrade / change and the general frustration with trying to reinstall Windows iso.

I've been wanting to try Linux and decided Zorin was the distro to do so on, due to visual familiarity.

In any case here is my issue: I got Zorin 15 working fine on my system, all hardware plugged in, will boot, with my temp CPU: AMD Phenom II x2

My ideal CPU is the AMD FX-8350 however. I updated my BIOS so the MOBO can support this chip, and it will now reach BIOS with the ideal CPU installed. However it will not load back into Zorin, I am left on a blank screen with a white cursor blinking. The only way I can get past this by hitting Shift during boot, which takes me to the advanced/console/memtest options. Going advanced -> second option (recovery mode) leads to the following screen: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... 141527.jpg And when I press Up it then does this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... 141313.jpg No further action can be taken.

More info: Won't boot from the Zorin Install disk I burned, leads to the same issue no matter if I try repair, or try/install ect. Blank screen, white blinking cursor.
I CAN load windows 7 on my other, currently bonked SSD up to the point where I'm having It's whole load of issues. (which I won't go into)

Sticky Required Information:
Code:
1. Custom Build, CoolerMaster Haf 922, M4A89GTD Pro (BIOS 3027 update)
2.Corsair 4x2GB 1600MHZ XMS3
3.Only Zorin, but I have a (broken) Windows 7 Home Edition on a different SSD
4. Unsure if I can reach this in the current state
5. ATI Radeon HD 5870
6. None (?)
7. None, wired??
8. It worked with the old CPU, including after BIOS update, just not with new CPU installed.
9. Zorin 15 Core x64 r1 iso

Sorry for being a noob about this I've tried all manner of nomodeset acpi=no in the boot edit (??terms???) and it still leads to this blank screen help!!!

Have you checked if there is a further BIOS update after you installed the update to accept the new CPU? There is some mention of 'iommu' here:

More suggestions here:

Interesting article here but not solution:

Hello! Thank you for the reply, I managed to figure out how to fix it.

I did do a BIOS update (to 3027 for my CPU support) and in the process some settings got reversed, so in case anyone else has this issue, what I did was:

BIOS -> Advanced Tab -> CPU Configuration

Then I set
Secure Virtual Machine Mode [Disabled]
Cool 'n'Quiet [Disabled]
ASUS Core Unlocker [Disabled]

And it now works! So I'm not sure WHICH of these three settings it was, I can try turning them off and on manually in a moment to verify, but I've managed to fix the issue phew! I was very close to just getting an entirely new system over this and of course it's just one simple bios setting [head>wall]
