the last couple days I've noticed that some background data gets downloaded, around 300-400 mb daily without any apparent reason .....
I monitored all the background processes, factory reset my router (which comes with strong password) and everything I could
yesterday it crossed 1gb and today around 700 mb

It appears that your computer might be configured to check for and download security updates in the background. If you wish to disable this feature in order to reduce data usage, please follow these steps:
1. Press the Logo/Windows key on your keyboard to search for & open "Software & Updates"
2. Navigate to the "Updates" tab
3. Open the dropdown menu beside "Automatically check for updates:" and select "Never"
4. Open the dropdown menu beside "When there are security updates:" and select "Display immediately" (so they are not automatically downloaded)
5. Close the Software & Updates app, without clicking the "Reload" button if prompted.
