Hi to all,

Okay here is my setup..
i5 machine
radeon grahics
3 1TB drives
1 DVD
1 Wired ethernet

I have a triple boot system
1 ) Windows 7
2 ) Windows 8.1 Beta
3 ) Zorin 7 Ultimate

** orginally had dual boot Win 7 & 8 ... used easyBCD to create a 3 boot sector using linux grub2
i made a small 50GB Harddisk using windows manager
then on installing used the directed method from the Zorin disk
select Other Method for install
and then created the partitions / and swap areas

I installed everything and it all runs great, perfect...everything installs and runs as it should
HERE IS MY PROBLEM
if I open Windows Network I can see and access all of my Windows machines (5 others) no problem
I installed SAMBA and can share folders in my home directory Documents, Pictures, etc with no problems

However, what I don't know how to do is share files from my other hard drives on the Zorin machine with the Windows network

under devices i have 3 other volumes
1 TB volume
655 GB volume
345 GB volume

each have folders within those that I want to share, but I am uncertain how to do that
It seems Samba only share items on my local drive, any suggestions how I do this?

Hi,

I don't do it myself buth this might help you:

You might want to install the Samba GUI which might make things easier for you, enter the following command in a terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get install system-config-samba

Yes, thank you for this..however
Unfortunately the reads you suggest are somewhat dated (I have already been down this road) and
the current version of Samba is newer and so these methods are rendered invalid.

On the windows side you may want to:

1. check the settings in D.E.P.
2. Firewall settings
3. Make sure that your Zorin desktop follows the naming conventions as your Windows ones and make sure part of the same 'workgroup' if not on a domain.
4. Consider setting up Virtual Private Network so no external access to private folders.

Yes, that would be one way however, my local Zorin drive (the one with the boot loader and home directories, etc.) is only 50GB, while it would work with small files the files folders on the other drives are into the 1TB size. So this is not an option.

I believe my solution is to some how mount the volumes into the /media or /mnt directories upon start up and then share them from those locations, but I am just not quite certain how to accomplish that.

Hi,

re: "I believe my solution is to some how mount the volumes into the /media or /mnt directories upon start up and then share them from those locations, but I am just not quite certain how to accomplish that."

Did you check out the Dconf Editor settings here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2054

Stop/Start Media Auto Mounting:
Dconf Editor > Org > Gnome > Desktop > Media-Handling > Automount/Automount-open/Autorun Never

Hope it helps.
