System Information

Does Zorin have any way to view system information, similar to window's ( System Information) tab

_The reason I ask, is because I want to know how much ram this computer is running.
_It's new so I don't feel like taking the panel off of the laptop.

_As far as system information that I do have. I have compiled quite a bit.

I install lm_sensors, and can view them in the terminal. I also did "" watch -n1 sensors"

And my latest addition is "" Psensor "". so I've got Core temperature, and CPU rates

But how To view the Ram? :?:

Not the rates. But how much is in there.

1GB 2gB 4GB?

The CLI way as follows.

<zorin menu> <accessories> <terminal>
OR
[ctrl]+[alt]+[T]

This will show you pretty much everything there is to know about your system =]
Code:
sudo lshw

you can also try to figure out the output from
Code:
dmesg

And for a quick simple solution
Code:
head -n1 /proc/meminfo

Typically when I'm just trying to get some quick details about a machine I use these commands
Code:
cat /proc/meminfo
cat /proc/cpuinfo

and if more is needed I use the lshw mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps.

I have a question:
Is there any GUI based program to show full CPU info as temperature, voltage and clock frequency for each core?
Below results that I get is strange:

jari@jari-ENVY17:~$ sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Package id 0: +57.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +57.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +56.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 2: +55.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 3: +55.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

nouveau-pci-0200
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +511.0°C (high = +95.0°C, hyst = +3.0°C)
(crit = +105.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)
(emerg = +135.0°C, hyst = +5.0°C)

Because the CPU core is referred as ISA-adapter and PCI adapter temperature shows 511C...

Well there are a few of 'sensor' gui's you can add to the panel in gnomeshell extensions. - Resource Monitor, SystemMonitor, system-monitor, Sensory Perception.

And there's a multi-faceted application, Stacer.

Yes, yes...
This stacer has some functionality, but it could not show CPU voltage, temperature and clock-frequency per each core.
So far this looks possible only in Windows10, like the "HWmonitor" as below:
CPUTEMPWIN10B.png

and Geekbench5 works in the linux though:

I'll post a screenshot of the monitor in my panel that includes temperature when I get home tonight at some point. ;)

I think i-nex or cpu-g would give you that info but they don't seem to work in Z15. What does work is these two:

sudo apt-get install sysinfo

sudo apt-get install hardinfo

Tambler, could you please give a quick guide on how to use HardInfo to find the voltage, etc.? I already have HardInfo installed and checked that a couple days ago and did not find that information. But, it is likely I am not well familiar with HardInfo as a program.

The one I have that gives temp is 'vitals' (gnome-shell extension):

Vitals.jpg

But I think it will be dependent upon whether you have any probes like an old pc a family member got rid of I built that had temperature sensor lcd panel with heat sensor resting on hard drive, the other next to cpu fan. ;) :D

Fwiw, I was using Hardware Sensors Indicator, which was nice. On one of my reinstalls it started giving me issues. Now I use Sensory Perception (screenshot).

It looks the temperature info is quite big in the "hardinfo", but there is not detail explanations for what each measurement is.
For the corevoltage monitoring there is no info in the "hardinfo".

Most of these applications do not have all the temperature, voltage and clock frequency displayed at the same time.
This could be important to display at the same time, since the power P is related to the all of these parameters as:
P = f * c * V^2, where f is clock frequency, c is capacitance and V is the supply voltage. c depends in the manufacturing process
mainly, and f and V are still adjustable in certain range. And this equation can be seen also as T ~ f * c * V^2, since T ~ P.

@Aravision

It seems that System Profiler (aka hardinfo) displays different results from distro to distro which is why I prefer i-nex or cpu-g. Nevertheless, carmar hit the nail on the head by recommending Sensory Perception yet even that is selective about what it displays on individual distros.

Yeah, Carmar pointed out a good one, but it won't work on Zorin Lite.

Running the cpu-g gives below warning, and stops:
jari@jari-ENVY17:~$ cpu-g
You need to have PyGTK 2.10.0, GTK.Glade and GTK+ 2.10.0 or higher installed in your system in order to run CPU-G.

Found a package "psensor":
sudo apt install psensor

Screenshot from 2020-04-04 14-11-44.png
cputemp

But this is not displaying the CPU core voltages and core clock rates.
If there is DC-voltage drop that causes any issues in clock rate is hard to be analyzed.
And if there is any AC-voltage fluctuations that is harmful for clock speed is hard
to be analyzed also unless the power could be checked at very fast pace, like 100MHz or faster.
For temperature issues low speed ADC is possibly good, but for voltage drop issues may Flash ADC
could be useful.
This system possibly has some issue that prevent it run at full 4.6GHz speed.
Either temperature or voltage drop related, I guess.

The below app has some issues startup:
jari@ENVY-17:~$ indicator-cpufreq

I checked that also, but the CPU clock rate and cpu core voltage is not shown at the same time.
The 3 parameters of the temperature, clock rate and voltage of each core should appear at the same time
to analyze which one is failing.

Well here is one for temperature from the terminal for each core:

Voltage advice:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... ost3071502 post by eddiegi686

clock rate:

Perhaps launch all three at once in separate terminals? Use something like Terminator?:
