How to get rid of Gnome top-panel after an update!

I have been trying to install Zorin on educational notebooks and using 12.1 updated to 12.2 caused a top panel to appear! I had to go to gnome extensions for this:

Sadly the notebook locked up - suspect hard drive failure as very old Dell E64500.
