wget LTS6.iso file

wasn't sure if I should post this here or in help & support, so feel free to move the post if it makes sense to do so.

anyways, I am using wget to d/load LTS6 because my inet connection is slow (but free!) and I can wait the day or so it takes. Ummm, but the file being d/loaded is named "K9perw", but it is 1.4G, so it appears as though it is the LTS6.iso file. Is that correct?

I'd just hate to spend an entire day d/loading a non .iso file.

BTW, how long is LTS6 good for before the next LTS is released? The details on the download page are pretty scant.

thanks in advance.

Open the downloaded .iso file and see if it looks like this.

Zorin OS 6.4 Core 32.png

Have you md5sum test software downloaded so that you can check if there is errors in the downloaded file ?

The size is here 1,5 GiB, but it may vary slightly. If it looks ok. so you can test it running it as live.

@Henriolavi,
Thanks for the feedback.
Open the downloaded .iso file and see if it looks like this.

Well, like I mentioned my inet connection is slow, so I am still in the (early) stages of the d/load (~15% or 241Mb atm).

Have you md5sum test software downloaded so that you can check if there is errors in the downloaded file ?

Yes, if the was completely d/loaded I realize I could simply md5 check sum it, but I am posting in advance of possibly wget d/loading a non .iso since the name of the file for the d/load link does not indicated that it is specifically an .iso file. B/c wget indicates the size of the linked file being d/loaded is 1.4G I am assuming it is the .iso file needed for installation.

Ok, so let us get waiting until the .iso is downloaded. The Zorin 6 LTS should be supported until April 2017 according to the information I have. The next LTS would probably be Zorin 9 based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

The next LTS would probably be Zorin 9 based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

So Zorin LTS follows Ubuntu LTS then? That would makes sense I guess. Its been a while since I ran Ubuntu, but if I remember correctly, support for Ubuntu LTS lasts 2 years before a new LTS is released and then I thought support ceases? My memory is like a sieve so it is likely what I think I remember is incorrect.

The Zorin 6 LTS should be supported until April 2017 according to the information I have.

Where does Zorin post the info?

I did not find that official LTS support time info from the Zorin Home page. I saw only this support time lastly on the Swarfendor's draft user manual for Zorin 6. But that is not considered to be the original and official source of that information.

Zorin releases are concomitant with Ubuntu releases (but they don't always follow the mad rush of the 'development' cycle releases that Ubuntu does). Zorin 6 is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and for the first time Ubuntu extended the normal 3 years associate with their LTS release cycle to 5 years - hence April 2017 is LTS for Zorin 6 also! ;)

If you need the 'official' information (like my word is not good enough? )

I moved to #! about 2 years ago from longtime xubuntu user b/c I got fed up with the "mad rush" or releases that always managed to break things that were previously working fine. I am a little leary going back to an ubu-based release, having come to love my debian stable-openbox combo, but this is for my wife's new laptop and I am really trying hard to get her to migrate from winblowz to linux (as I have for the past 7 years without luck). So the Zorin windows look might just help to grease things a little more in favour of linux.

for the first time Ubuntu extended the normal 3 years associate with their LTS release cycle to 5 years

So does that mean there will be 5 years between LTS releases or will there be overlapping LTS releases? 5 years seems like a long time to go before a new release.

If you need the 'official' information (like my word is not good enough? )

Thanks for the link. The problem was not whether "your word is ... good enough," but rather the lack of "words" I was unable to stumble across regarding release lifetime and other pertinent distro details.

So the d/load finally finished and the md5's indeed check out fine so the file named "K9perw" from the d/load link is indeed the LTS.iso file. Why not name the file something a little more obvious and helpful such as "Zorin_6.0_LTS.iso"? "K9perw" might well mean something to someone, but certainly not me.

Anyways, I just installed it as a virt machine and so-far-so good for a clunky ubu spin. Compared to winblowz though, anything's gotta be an improvement.

Re overlap - yes - Ubuntu 14.04 is a 5 year release - and when Zorin 9 comes out - that will be the same (April 2019). :D
